Time is running out for taxpayers to file their 2017 tax return. All taxpayers must either file their federal tax return or file for an extension by April 17th. If you’re going to owe taxes for 2017, you must pay those by midnight on April 17th, even if you file for an extension. Getting an extension on your tax return does not extend your time to pay, only your time to file.
Taxpayers can file online or use a paper return to file their tax return. It’s important to know if you are taking the standard deduction or if you’re going to itemize your deductions. If you decide to itemize, make sure you keep all your documentation for the deductions in case the IRS asks for proof for your deductions.
If you aren’t sure of how to prepare your tax return or need help filing, Polston Tax can help. Our team of trained tax preparers can help you decide which tax deductions and tax credits apply to you and help make sure you have the right documentation for it.
