Tax Dates and Deadlines for 2021

A new year means new tax deadlines! These dates are just a few of the major tax deadlines you will need to remember for the year. It’s important to stick to the IRS’s deadlines. Missing a deadline could mean getting assessed penalties and interest. Here are just a few of the dates you need to remember.

January 15th, 2021

  • 4th Quarter 2020 Estimated Tax Payment Due. If you are self-employed or have 4th quarter income that requires quarterly estimated tax payments, your 4th Quarter Estimated Tax Payment for 2020 is due on the 15th. You must submit your payment with Form 1040-ES by January 15, 2021.

April 15, 2021

  • If you are self-employed or have 1st quarter income that requires quarterly estimated tax payments, your 1st Quarter Estimated Tax Payment for 2021 is also due on the 15th. You must submit your payment with Form 1040-ES by April 15, 2021.
  • This is also the last day to make an IRA Contribution. If you haven’t fully funded your retirement account for 2020, you have until April 15, 2021, to do so. This is the deadline to make a contribution to a traditional IRA, deductible or not, and a Roth IRA.

May 17th, 2021

  • Your 2020 Individual Tax Return is due. You must either e-File or mail your federal return by midnight or it will be considered late. If you need more time to prepare your federal tax return, you can request a tax extension to push your deadline back until October 15, 2021. This request must be submitted by April 15th.

June 15, 2021

  • If you are self-employed or have 2nd quarter income that requires quarterly estimated tax payments, your 2nd Quarter Estimated Tax Payment for 2021 is due on the 15th. You must submit your payment with Form 1040-ES by June 15, 2021.

September 15, 2021

  • If you are self-employed or have 3rd quarter income that requires quarterly estimated tax payments, your 3rd Quarter Estimated Tax Payment for 2021 is due on the 15th. You must submit your payment with Form 1040-ES by September 15, 2021.

October 15, 2021

  • Extended 2020 Individual Tax Return Due If you requested an extension for filing your 2019 Federal tax return, you now must file your tax return by October 15, 2021, or it will be considered late.
