You may not have realized – until you received a scary notice in the mail – that your professional license can be suspended if you owe a certain amount of back taxes. (That includes teaching, medical, veterinary, accounting, hairdressing and many other types of licenses.) Unfortunately, it can happen. But fortunately, we can help satisfy the IRS and get your license renewed or re-issued.

Here’s a quick overview of tax-related license sanctions – and how we can help get them lifted for you.

How License Sanctions Work

If you owe over a certain amount of back taxes, the IRS can request that your professional license be suspended, revoked, or denied issuance or renewal. If your license has been suspended, you can no longer practice your profession in the state of Oklahoma.

Some of the licenses that may be sanctioned include teaching, hairdresser’s, doctor’s, nurse’s, accountant’s, attorney’s or architects. Hunting or fishing licenses may also be revoked or suspended.

If the IRS has sanctioned your license, you’ll receive a notice in the mail about your tax debt, with a deadline for establishing a payment agreement. (That’s when you call us, immediately!)

If the deadline passes and you haven’t taken steps to pay your debt, the IRS sends a Certificate of Non-Compliance to the appropriate authority, and then the authority notifies you that your license will be suspended or revoked.

You then have another short window of time during which you can become compliant, and if this final grace period passes, you will lose your license. (If you didn’t call us earlier, then you’d better call us now!)

How Can We Help?

If you’ve received a license sanction notice from the IRS, we can help you resolve the sanction so you can keep working. We can work with the IRS to establish an installment plan or an Offer in Compromise, or get the debt moved to “Currently Not Collectible” status. We have lots of methods to help satisfy the IRS and get you compliant. The important thing is that we CAN get your license reinstated! You don’t have to suffer professionally if you owe back tax debt.
